Overview

The Senior Manager of International Transportation and Customs will be a key member of the Operations leadership team and will be responsible for all import and export international transportation operations as well as all associated Customs and other government agencies activities.  The Senior Manager will be responsible for delivering costs savings, strengthening relationships with our transportation partners and ensuring compliance with all applicable government agencies. This position is based in our corporate office in Charlotte, NC and will build relationships with the Distribution, Planning, Domestic Transportation and Supply Chain Strategy leaders as well as key stakeholders in Sales, Marketing, Finance and HR.

Responsibilities

  • Review operations for impact of regulations such as the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Customs and Border Protection Regulations.
  • Train, consult with, and advise employees through assessments and audits of international trade practices.
  • Develop materials for, and participate in, training on import and export regulations and policies.
  • Assess and audit sites for import and export compliance, to include C-TPAT.
  • Produce written assessment reports and monitor compliance with various government agencies.
  • Assist business units and legal counsel to help resolve trade compliance matters.
  • Manage Customs brokers regarding compliance and meeting agreed upon service level agreements.
  • Create SOPs for team members and create a corporate compliance manual.
  • Meet with US Customs and other government agencies on a regular basis to maintain a working relationship.
  • This position leads international transportation functions to include the contracting, execution, network modeling, and service of all import and export freight.
  • Accountable for leading best practices to the overall work processes, analytics, delivery methods, service as well as leading and executing the cost savings projects across the network.
  • Lead the International Transportation annual operating plan, manage and monitor cost performance.
  • Build and maintain the overall strategic plan, associated deliverables for the International Transportation function, carrier strategy, systems / IT requirements.
  • Accountable for the International Transportation procurement process
  • Manage carrier relationships and performance over a range of key performance indicators, such as on time performance, data compliance and cost.
  • Build and maintain collaborative and supportive relationships with carrier partners.
  • Responsible for International Transportation and Customs related custom reporting and dashboards.
  • Work collaboratively with parent and sister companies to create uniform International Transportation and Customs process for the United States.
  • International Transportation lead for S&OP process, including guidance on freight cost and lead time, and market impacts (capacity).
  • Lead risk mitigation strategy for the department that minimize the impact of potential operational disruptions.
  • With Finance Partners leads the development of the annual International Transportation budget process, and monthly budget variance analysis and cost reconciliations.
  • Management of multiple cost savings projects - scope definition, planning, documentation / vetting, timeline execution and leadership of cross functional teams.
  • Coach, develop, train, and lead a team of Transportation professionals.

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree preferred with minimum 10 years experience in supply chain management
  • Licensed Customs Broker
  • Experience with Oracle, TMS and WMS systems
  • Continuous improvement initiatives
  • Management of teams across multiple locations
  • Solid analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations.
  • Travel +/-25%
